The Firewall

All the protection 0.025” of stainless steel can provide

Section 27 provided an interesting pivot from working with stainless steel versus the aluminum of past parts. The Firewall is the attach point for the engine mount and a variety of accessories and is meant to provide some protection from an engine fire. This is based on the melting point of ~ 2500 degrees F for stainless compared to 1220 degress F for aluminum. All the avionics will attach aft of the Firewall as well. These efforts spanned November thru early December 2021.

Not much to do in this section except attach a bunch of stiffeners to strengthening the mount points for the engine. I decided to prime and paint those support angles because the metals are dissimiliar which introduces additional corrosion risk. The paint is a high temp version, which is not really necessary, but i decided, why not? I also decided to pre-paint fuselage parts aft of the firewall as I like to see the rivets that took so much effort to install. If painting after completing the interior, they would all be covered up. It may still end up that way if the paint gets a lot of abuse throughout the rest of the build. Time will tell. But right now I like how it’s looking.
